Dew-Scented - _Issue VI_
(Nuclear Blast, 2005)
by: Jackie Smit (8 out of 10)
There's something a bit different to Dew-Scented on _Issue VI_. It's definitely not a change of pace or the sound of a band turning their back on their thrash metal roots; that much is sure when "Processing Life" literally detonates the record in a blaze of Slayer-on-PCP riffing. No, what sets _Issue VI_ apart from its five forerunners is a matured sense of dynamics that previously appeared to have no place on a Dew-Scented record. The result is an album that's impactful, ferocious and relentlessly aggressive, but with enough catchy chops and variety to hold the listener's interest past the first four tracks. Everything you've come to know and love about Dew-Scented is still present: from Leif Jensen's always thunderous vocal delivery, through to the band's almost impossibly tight virtuosity. The difference lies in the execution, and for the first time in their ten year career, Dew-Scented have managed to capture the same magic they exude on a stage in a recording studio -- which for those in the know should mean something quite significant.
