The ever prolific Vinterriket returns with a soundtrack to the film "Kontemplative Antagonismen Des Augenblicks", consisting of a single 40-minute monster. Regular readers will know that I am not a fan of excessively long songs -- "excessive" being defined as twenty minutes or more -- and Vinterriket do not manage to persuade me that the length is justified. They still operate within the dark ambient field, this time with all extraneous elements stripped to create a minimalist approach of a drone overlaid by a more melodic tone. The problem is that well before the twentieth minute, we're exhibited to all that Vinterriket provides and the rest is little more than pure repetition. It's intended as and has limited success as an atmospheric enterprise, but there comes a point where the vestigial melody is exhausted and that point arrives well before the end. Perhaps it works for the film, but by itself, it is overlong and repetitive.
