Vinterriket - _Der letze Winter - Der Ewigkeit entgegen_

Once again inspired by winter's arboreal rows and endless sky clouds shared tacitly within each album, Vinterriket nevertheless returns fatigued sounding and scaling back significantly from 2004's _Winterschatten_, showcases nine variations of too similar themes. Is it the consequence of being so prolific, simply a lax judgment, or am I just a bastard? This album, put concisely, is filled with stunning entrances and inadequate conclusions. Incorporating emollient drifts in soothing rises and plush falls to open the album; the tempo then pushed harder than usual, led primarily by drums and guitar -- here used more explicitly than before, bursting like a flare, vibrantly hissing against the vox (also more prominent). It repeats, becoming derivative of itself in no pleasing way, the new found interest in white noise bluster compromising the full key-tone resonance anchoring the entire sound, appearing amateurish in this regard despite its better efforts at stylish integration with ambient waves of rain and wind. This is the least experimental Vinterkerret has sounded, which in fact shows a huge departure by comparison to the EBM flirtations of the last album as well as the minimal stand-alone atmosphere of the recent "Landschaften Ewiger Einsamkeit". A by-the-numbers, unfortunately bland addition to this discography.
