Nachtmystium - _Nachtmystium_
(Battle Kommand Records, 2005)
by: T. DePalma (2 out of 10)
A re-release that marks the third edition of this three year old EP, previously released only in limited CD and LP format, that arrived in time for the group's advantageous tour with Sunn O))) this past winter. It has a new layout and it's remastered too, but that was never the problem.

Just two years ago, with the release of _Eulogy IV_, Nachtmystium began to create something distinct; not a particularly good album, but one fashioned in a way that captures your attention, while this present release can evoke only scorn, wandering in furrows abandoned long ago by their superiors, and with good reason -- there is nothing more to harvest. At best, what these tracks show is a fine grasp of melody and pacing through rather elementary patterns of melody and thrashing riffs that practically write themselves -- not just unoriginal, but bland too, making this all so tedious and unnecessary.
