Incorporea - _Tongue of the Moribund_
by: Quentin Kalis (4 out of 5)
This cassette demo, available from Oniric Records, consists of three tracks of melancholic black metal. The adopted motif is simple but effective: basic, droning Burzum-esque riffs never veering above mid-tempo and possessed of catchy yet understated melody that drawls in the listener through its hypnotic repetition. A few acoustic passages are added for a smidgen of variety. A full-length may run the risk of monotony, but with a playing time under 30 minutes, the risk is remote. Incorporea may not blow you away with nonpareil innovation, but their misleading simplicity tags them as one of the stronger entrants to the depressive and melancholic streams of black metal.
