Malinvern - _Under a Monumental Silence_
by: Quentin Kalis (2.5 out of 5)
Malinvern largely conform to the raw black metal motif, form the rudimentary riffs right through to the non-existent production. The sole deviation from this blueprint are the keyboard passages, which are comparable to those used by the key heavy variants around 1997, particularly Dimmu Borgir circa _Stormblast_ and _Enthrone Darkness Triumphant_. The juxtaposition of raw black metal with these keys has not been successful, as their preferred brand is better suited for key-free escapades. Their stripped down sound is negatively affected by the comparative extravagance, even if it is nowhere as lush or Dimmu Borgir or Vesania. Perhaps at a later stage they will meld these two threads together to produce an unforgettable opus, but not at this time.
