Nadiwrath - _Nadiwrath_
by: Quentin Kalis (3 out of 5)
The last time I heard a black metal demo by a band was last year. Seriously -- almost all the new bands crawling out of the woods have been one-man projects. One man projects have provided black metal with some of the most amazing and memorable tunes (where would black metal be without Burzum's "Was Einst War"?) but most are simply recycling the same old rubbish.

Nadiwrath's heart consists of guitarist Nadir and vocalist Wrath -- hence the name -- accompanied by drummer Yngve and bassist Sardonic, who does not feature on this demo. Although it reads as a clumsy juxtaposition, it actually rolls quite easily off the tongue.

Admittedly, Nadiwrath are not that different from the one-man misanthropes, but having a full band and an acceptable production that brings out of the coldness of their riffs without drowning them in a sea of distortion and feedback. Their biggest problem is that they tend to their influences too obviously on their collective sleeve; "Horns" possesses a riff that recalls Mayhem's "Deathcrush", whilst the groove they have on "Eyes Full of Vengeance" is reminiscent of "Buried by Time and Dust", displaying a strong Celtic Frost influence on other occasions. They have an acceptable sound and mood, now Nadiwrath need to concentrate on perfecting their own vile brew.
