Elysium - _Promo 2007_
by: Quentin Kalis (3 out of 5)
Alongside Pest and Behemoth, Elysium is probably one of the most overused band names. This entity originates from the Czech Republic and performs a mix of melodic thrash and death metal, within the modern context of downtuned shrieks and larynx straining shouts, over the course of three tracks. This is intended, as a promo for their independently released album, _Private Hell_. The first two songs are standard doses of contemporary sounding thrash, including some distinctive hardcore elements on "Tribute to a Baneful Race". They save the best for last, on the appropriately named "Present of Speed", whose pacing makes for an invigorating closer. If the band can maintain the quality of "Present of Speed", on _Private Hell_, an above average listen is a certainty; but if the former two songs are more representative, then it is likely to be a mixed bag. These songs are available for download, so perhaps the reader may prefer to decide for him or herself at the address below.
