Revenant - _Evil Mind_
by: Quentin Kalis (2 out of 5)
Influences cited by the band include Metallica (first three only!), Iron Maiden and Children of Bodom. One would expect an aggressive thrash band with a liking for melody and perhaps the occasional power metal flourish, but I am treated to nothing of the sort. Opener "Evil Mind" sounds more like a sleazy rock song, but the first song's retro flavour sounds a whole lot more dated than the timeless works of Iron Maiden and Metallica, whilst the second song owes more to bands like Testament or Exodus. "Tears of My Soul" is an attempt at a power ballad, intruding upon Iron Maiden territory towards the end when they pick up the pace, whilst the fourth song sounds like old-school punk rather than any form of metal. A rather varied work, but this suggests a lack of musical direction rather than an eclectic approach.
