Cor Scorpii - _Attergangar_
by: Pedro Azevedo (4.5 out of 5)
Featuring three former members of Windir, Cor Scorpii have by now already signed a deal with Descent Productions from Holland, and the original 300 copies of _Attergangar_ are reportedly sold out. This review therefore only serves the purpose of introducing our readers to the band before their commercial debut.

Cor Scorpii play black metal that is somewhere between symphonic and progressive, with a considerable keyboard component. They have their own sound though; you don't feel like you're listening to a Dimmu Borgir clone, even if certain elements may seem reminiscent of bands like Arcturus or Borknagar. Keyboard and guitars occasionally go off on tasteful solos and tangents, and the band strike a good balance between melody and aggression. Their songwriting and delivery leaves no doubt that these are experienced musicians, in this case even used to playing in the same band. As a result _Attergangar_ feels like a good EP rather than a demo -- and indeed I wouldn't be surprised if Descent Productions decided to re-issue _Attergangar_ as an EP, as it certainly has enough quality to justify it and shouldn't remain in obscurity.
