CoC : Imperator - Gods Among Men : Review

Imperator themselves say that they hope to record a new demo soon "which will basically be much faster and have much more double bass drumming". That sounds promising enough, because the main problem with this half-hour long demo CD of theirs is the rather poor and powerless drumming. With some strong, fast drumming driving their thick, heavily distorted guitars, things could certainly become much more interesting in the future. Their crushing, at times somewhat Morbid Angel-esque guitar work can also use some improvement and become tighter, but reasonable songwriting ideas and playing can be found on this demo already. Imperator tend to write long songs, which can be a very good characteristic, but the eleven minute long closing track "Plagued Lands" is rather excessive considering its contents. Still, with more work and a talented drummer behind them, Imperator's next demo could be quite interesting.
