I've never heard of the Icelandic one-man band Wormlust, but after spinning the band's _The Wormlust Collective_ I'd gladly want to hear more of this band's future endeavours.

_The Wormlust Collective_ is comprised of three extremely long tracks, one of which is an instrumental. What strikes the listener is the allegedly chaotic nature of the music, but after a while, when the ears have become accustomed to the eerie chaos, the compositions start to emerge and take a coherent form, and they vary from the very beautiful and emotional, to the absolutely despairing.

Further into each track, one realizes how varied and versatile they are, oscillating between various velocities and estranged soundscapes, all wrapped up in a shadowy blanket of sonic night time and fog. From utter tranquillity and reflective moments, to the swirling whirlwind of a madman's mind, the music is intimate and mysterious, exercising multiple moods, beats, breaks and atmospheres, making the whole of the package a progressive (if not avantgarde) experience through the bleakest reaches black metal has bestowed upon mankind -- from nauseating speeds to wrist cutting sorrows; from hypnotic, abysmal dirges, to Pink Floyd-ish celestial bliss.

Disjointed and a tad unripe, especially in the production department (and the very peculiar structure of the second track, whose almost quarter of an hour's length seems to be a patchwork of various tracks hastily pasted together), the musical material here bears so much enigmatic power, it makes all other 'technical' faculties almost inconsequential in comparison.

Whether you want your music to be a vehicle carrying you to the farthest reaches of the cosmos or a hearse that will take you safely to the pits of hell, _The Wormlust Collective_ has the ability to do both. I will definitely look forward to what Wormlust has to say in the near future; so should you!
