Murder Construct - _Results_
(Relapse Records, 2012)
by: Johnathan A. Carbon (7.5 out of 10)
I feel I just got done discussing supergroups and metal collaborations. Well, here is another -- sort of. Murder Construct is a team comprised mostly of members from Cattle Decapitation and Exhumed. Both entities are from Relapse Records, both live in southern California, and both are unrelenting in their focus on extreme metal. I am surprised it hasn't happened sooner. Murder Construct proposes a partnership between Exhumed's lurid brand of death metal and the death grind ferocity of Cattle Decapitation. I wish you could see my face.

_Results_ is Murder Construct's debut, succeeding a well received EP a few years prior. The record follows on the heels of Exhumed's 2011 _All Guts, No Glory_ as well as Cattle Decapitation's 2012 _Monolith of Inhumanity_. There seems to be little rest for southern Californian deathgrind.

There is no nonsense in Murder Construct. There are no frills, bells, or whistles. This is textbook terror played at the speed of horrifying. There are few reasons to listen to _Results_ other than to subject oneself to raw and unstructured nightmares. Much like the cover by the once again amazing Orion Landau, landscapes are covered with debris and chaos dominated only by supernormal constructions.

Compared to other Relapse deathgrind records which also came out this year, Murder Construct does not capture the same attention, at least for me, as Cattle Decapitation's _Monolith of Inhumanity_. This opinion only rests in my complete adoration for vocalist Travis Ryan's newly debuted screech. This is not Cattle Decapitation however, and Murder Construct shares more similarities with Exhumed's butchering style than anything. Murder Construct is a bloody avalanche rather than a glass tornado. This, of course, is fine with me.

Murder Construct is a solid collaboration between two veteran voices in the death universe. The product meets expectations and a solid link is forged between these two bands. Now if we could just fuse Murder Construct and Serpentine Path, things would get interesting.
