The vocals don't drift much from pig squeals throughout the twenty-seven minute duration of _Orphion_, which could get on the nerves of those who don't have the pathology for them squeals. But if your selective hearing abilities are anything like mine, or even better, you'll find your neck swaying back and forth to the pummeling riffs of "Utnaphistim" and its hint of technicality à la Meshuggah in the last minute. The transitional track "Ophiogenesis" is played entirely on a sitar that seeps into the dynamic and most impressive track "Astrophobos", while "To Remain Human" rounds off the EP with some vocoder style vocals and an engaging guitar solo.

To be honest I was expecting a full-length album from Devius, not another EP. Had _Orphion_ been fifteen or twenty minutes longer, I would have given it a higher score than a 6.5. In addition, the release of another EP makes me start to wonder about the band's ability to put together a piece of music that lasts more than half an hour. Of course there can be other external factors that would affect the recording process that any band has to go through. Having said that, I also should point out that _Orphion_ is not a musical disappointment by any stretch, and its production quality is better than its predecessor, which is a sign of improvement. I think now they're ready to put out a proper full-length album.
