Harsh and gritty. Trap Them flaunts a beehive guitar approach with an aggressive, forcefully blunt technique, whereby this grind-y extremecore outfit have found a niche that seems to fit them perfectly. This newest construct from Seattle's four-piece extreme metalers finds itself surrounded with much anticipation. To that point, it has been reported that Barney Greenway of Napalm Death cut right to the point when he apparently stated that Trap Them restored his faith in extreme music._Darker Handcraft_, somewhat unlike 2008's _Seizures in Barren Praise_ or its previous year's predecessor _Sleepwell Deconstructor_, manages an unsettling synchronization to the album's texture that stays with the listener long after the release's thirty plus minute duration. Stated another way, _DH_ has a unique method that defies conventional formulas. More than primitive, but far less than overly technical, Trap Them have poised themselves as potential influences for fresh upstarts in the extreme community. Plenty of enticing material to be sure, but "Evictionaries", "Drag the Wounds Eternal" and the final cut from _Darker Handcraft_, the album's longest clocking in at nearly four and half minutes, "Scars Align", supply the finest display of Trap Them's notable aptitude.
There is more to be explored for this grind/punk extremecore quartet, but _Darker Handcraft_ has indeed scratched the surface. Not only is an iceberg cold, heavy and definably unyielding, ninety percent of its mass is below the surface. Should Trap Them expose that submerged dark density potential moving forward, April 1912 would simply look like a losing game of Battleship.
