Face of Ruin - _Face of Ruin_
(Independent, 2009)
by: Quentin Kalis (7 out of 10)
As brutal as it is technical, with melody and prog inclinations in supporting roles, _Face of Ruin_ is as monolithic in their approach as any barre chord blaster. Despite the obvious individual skills on display, Face of Ruin are not as tight as they could be, although this is probably just a matter of time. The production, although acceptable, tends towards the crudity associated with self-financed projects. Despite being perfectly enjoyable in its entirety, at song level it is hard to discern where one begins and another ends. This is partially mitigated by a playing time of about 20 minutes, but when they record a follow-up, this could be a potential problem if not addressed. Regardless of the concerns raised above, this is one band I will be watching in the future.
