Dragged Into Sunlight - _Hatred for Mankind_
(Mordgrimm, 2009)
by: Quentin Kalis (6.5 out of 10)
The British neophytes channel primitive death metal within an all-enveloping blackened aura lending their work a brooding grimness rarely heard in the subgenre. The distorted vocals work towards this end, but the use of narrated samples (apparently one of the samples is of Charlie Manson, chillingly appropriate on the anniversary on the 40th anniversary of the Manson Family murders) drags the Brits back to a genre they were never truly a part of. Vestigial melodies are present, barring a few isolated thrash chops, a bit too upbeat in this context, most prominently on "Volcanic Birth", which at nine minutes, is far too long. The amateurish touches of overlong songs and spoken samples aside, Dragged Into Sunlight deliver a reasonably robust debut, providing an accurate portrayal of their approach if not their potential.
