Yet already key elements of later works are emerging. For example, literary texts are used as a source of lyrical inspiration, although their choice of long dead French poets Rimbaud and Baudelaire can seem self-consciously pretentiousness without the playfulness of a Lewis Carroll as a counterpoint, while the clumsy trance-like "Dignitas Dei" hints at psychedelic touches.

I could be accused of placing too much emphasis on how this compares to later albums which have reaped the awards of experience sowed by this one, yet it seems doubtful that public perceptions shaped by superior material were not a factor in deciding to re-issue earlier material. This is not an important album, bit it is a significant baby step by a band who would prove their worth in the years to come.
