_Galeere_ prominently displays strong and well produced guitar work and distinctive use of unobtrusive synths, all of it combined into a potent and coherent whole. The considerable length of all five tracks on offer was only to be expected; this is hardly a collection of brief demonic incantations of some sort, but rather a much more pondered and structured affair. Their long compositions -- while not quite Nagelfar's _Hünengrab im Herbst_, for a somewhat obscure reference -- are definitely good enough to maintain interest. Geïst are able to mix just enough doom and aggression into their music to ensure there is something for everyone with an interest in said genres. _Galeere_ is therefore recommended as possibly a very pleasant surprise for those who take the time to give it a chance.
