Merendine Atomiche - _Locomotive Music_
(Locomotive Music, 2009)
by: Quentin Kalis (6.5 out of 10)
Merendine Atomiche's unusual synthesis has caused more than a few querying eyebrows to be raised -- who else would combine post-Pantera / Machine Head grooviness with the poodle rock of Motley Crue? I suspect that there are not too many other people out there with both "Shout at the Devil" and "This Love" on their iPods. Some Southern rock moments also surface intermittently, and the whole package is suggestive of an American, not Italian entity. It remains an open question as to whether this could work; they have failed to capture the quintessential qualities of either, lacking the masculine swagger of Pantera or hair metal's flamboyant extravagance. Consequently, the resulting middle of the road release plods along, its stadium metal moments allowing it to rise above the herd ever so briefly.
