Destruktor - _Nailed_
(Hells Headbangers, 2009)
by: Alexandra Erickson (8.5 out of 10)
Unapologetic bestial black metal from down under, they've done it again. Destruktor are a force to be reckoned with, and with this as their debut full-length, one tremendously over-due, _Nailed_ was well worth the wait. Merciless from the opening notes, a strong declaration of war in a genre full of warlords is raised and supported with the might of giants.

This release absolutely drips of that annihilating, gut-wrenching, machine-gunning, warring black metal sound that Australia has become the premiere supplier of, and which they do with more finesse than any of the rest of us. Drums seemingly running faster than the speed of light, calling the blasphemous hordes to arms. Guitars still bewilderingly able to find pace and even melody in the dense fog of battle. And the vocals... guttural, desecrating, eradicating, simply the stuff of nightmares. But they're amazing, adding a dimension completely immersed in the devotion to hostility.

Swimming, no... drowning in the oppression that draws metal hellions like bees to honey, this album is an instant classic. There is no shortage of blast-beats, but it doesn't get old or over used here; it's almost a necessity. The crunching guitars married with bowel-shaking bass lines climbing over the drums all help to remind you that this album is here to kick you in the teeth and piss on your mothers grave. Running the gambit from chugging old-school death metal to that battery of death-thrash-black goat metal, to the deepest abysses of old-school black metal raging. And what could be the most pleasant surprise of all in this gem... the production quality was exquisite. There weren't instruments lost in the mire, everything was showcased beautifully and that isn't something I ever thought I would say about any metal with balls this big. Hopefully this album will help this band rise from the shadows of cult EP-masters to a band thats capable of worldwide touring with a fair amount of regularity, and hopefully even more albums to come. This time in less than a decade and a half!
