This is the follow-up to Dominance's debut album, released in 1999. At least they can't be accused of rushing this album! It does appear as if they split up and then reformed, as seems to be all too common these days. Their first release was well-received, apparently achieved cult status and might be worth a listen, but I cannot say the same about this album. At the Gates, Carcass, Morbid Angel and Malevolent Creation are stated as influences, and while traces of all can be heard at times, this does not sound like a carbon copy of any of these bands. Nor are they fresh, losing what little steam they had as the album progresses, with the second half sounding particularly bland. They are reasonably competent as musicians, but this matters little if the material they work with is dull. The vocals are no less monotonous or uninspiring, and improved growls or at least a bit of variety are needed. Ten years is a long time to be out of the game, and Dominance need some time to find their stride as a band once again.
