Whourkr have excised most of the guitar riffs (and drums, and bass...) from their grind orientated sophomore effort, filling the lacunae with a breakbeat, an aggressive strain of mainstream electronica. The metal sections are not the foundation but merely another colour in their palette, and thus incomparable to Aussie mentalists The Berzerker, who rely far more strongly on traditional metal for their sensory assault. The effect is schizophrenic on several levels: the sudden and unexpected shifts create a sense of chaos, but can also seem like the result of a frenzied cut and paste session with various unrelated bursts of electronica and metal stitched together with the grace and skill of Frankenstein's monster. Congrats are due for their decision to walk the path much less travelled, but the realization of their vision requires substantially more "whourk".
