Hellacaust - _Disgust_
(Bloodbucket Productions, 2008)
by: Quentin Kalis (7.5 out of 10)
The point of departure for Hellacaust is old-school thrash, with a touch of proto black darkness combined with the tremolo speed and aggression of black metal, especially the oft maligned Marduk / Dark Funeral strain. The best elements of both are retained, melding the vigour of thrash with the inexorably relentless blast of Marduk at their trebly best, avoiding becoming an unintentional parody of the former or a generic clone of the latter. Even the vocalist exhibits this blend, sounding as if Legion is, um, "possessed" by the sprit of Possessed. At this point, mentioning that they maintain a speedy tempo between fast and faster is almost superfluous. The infiltration of something from outside the established and well-explored perimeters of thrash has injected what could otherwise be a moribund exercise with renewed vitality that enhances rather than dilute the memories of the giants of yesteryear.
