Flesh Grinder - _Crumb's Crunchy Delights Organization_
(Black Hole Productions, 2008)
by: Quentin Kalis (7 out of 10)
Brazilian splatter /gore outfit Flesh Grinder have composed a conceptual album (clearly no longer limited to pretentious prog geeks or self-proclaimed lords blazing through the forest) based on the 1987 movie "Bad Taste", a tale of cannibalistic excess [involving aliens who want to make human meat pies -- the debut, self-financed feature of wannabe kiwi filmmaker Peter Jackson, who went on to become a household name when he masterminded massively successful adaptations of "The Lord of the Rings" a decade and some later -- Proofreader PS]. No goregrind worth its pitch-shifted growls would be complete without a healthy smattering of samples, and no prizes for guessing the source of those scattered within. The songs are not the tightest around and while this is not a silly "parody" album, neither are they deadly serious, maintaining a healthy sense of irreverence throughout. The songs are short but not so short as to compete with early Napalm Death or Agoraphobic Nosebleed, while the vocals have been given the usual pitch-shifted treatment. Another strong grind contender from the southern lands, one that is best enjoyed with a glass of Chianti and a side of fava beans.
