Did you ever listen to any random deathcore / modern thrash CD and think, "Damn! These guys need to remove that carrot up their ass and lighten up!" I never did, and I doubt any of our regular readers did either. Attila (no, not the legendary Hungarian singer) did, creating the latest core-suffixed pseudo-genre: partycore! The music sounds dead serious, but is betrayed by the lyrical frivolity of Poison and Motley Crue inspired numbers such as "One Night Stand" and "You Looked a Lot Better Last Night". As implied by the last title, they try to be humorous, but fail and sound more like an aggressive drunk spoiling for a fight than anyone in a celebratory mood. And don't be fooled by passages of ultra-guttural grunting; this cannot disguise the distinctive chugging 'core rhythms or detract attention away from what is one of the most underwhelming records of the year.
