Lymphatic Phlegm - _Show-Off Cadavers - The Anatomy of Self Display_
(Black Hole Productions, 2007)

Lymphatic Phlegm have emerged from the same badly decomposed corpse as Carcass and The County Medical Examiners, with the latter's Dr Morton Fairbanks providing a foreword that confirms the stereotype of coroners as creepy individuals. The lyrics read like snippets from medical textbooks and dictionaries, although they are allegedly original and not cut and pasted from "Gray's Anatomy", suggesting some level of medical training on the part of lyricist Andre Luiz.

The songs are naturally short, but Agoraphobic Nosebleed circa _Altered States of America_ short, and thus can be considered and enjoyed as full songs. The songs are not as coldly neutral as the lyrics, but the combination of tightly packed riffs which suffocate most of the melody and guttural pith shifted vocals do not provide for an warm or organic listen either. The songs are focused, comparable to a scalpel's precision rather than the blunt force trauma of many of the brutal gore contemporaries. The vocals are guttural, but with individual syllables discernible, if not actual words. In summation, the use of medical terminology is a proverbial hoary chestnut, but their music is not devoid of merit, providing a relentlessly brutal yet focused listen.
