CoC : Dyscord - Dakota : Review

For most people, "Dakota" is immediately associated with the American states, but this is an Australian band with few ties to the US, beyond the usage of the Machine Head inspired modern thrash. A smidgen of Gothenburg melodic sensibility, some core elements, and plain old-fashioned death metal can also be detected, but are never allowed to even threaten to overwhelm their grooving mouthwash. The vocals are of a subtlety rarely seen outside of WWE, whilst clean vocals are so infrequently used as to be practically non-existent. Good. I'm not a huge fan of his preferred style, but far less so of awkward and out of key vocals. To be fair, if the vocalist was of the rare competent variety, I would be praising their carefully placed and selective use. Dyscord do not embarrass themselves, but fall short of covering themselves in glory. Still, if they can convey even an iota of the energy within into their live shows, they may have a future beyond Australia's West Coast.
