Sarea - _Rise of a Dying World_
(Independent, 2008)
by: Quentin Kalis (6.5 out of 10)
Sarea is the loom upon which they weave disparate strands of heavy, thrash melodeath and power with some skill, as if they were apprentices to a wizened Berber whose craft is revered worldwide. No major missteps are made, although stray strands can be seen picking, and the strong power flavour of "Souls on Departure" does them no favours. The clean vocals will also require the assistance of a master, but the vaguely legible growls are unproblematic, as is their penchant -- and talent -- for soaring, fist pumping choruses. This kind of heavy-cum-power always benefits from a strong production, but it remains acceptable for an independent release. Although it is irrelevant to the music: guys, lose the shades in the band pictures -- you're supposed to be metal! You may as well have those ugly grills beloved of hip hop morons. Regardless, this is a catchy and melodic album by an independent minded heavy-power quintet -- and they aren't many of those around these days.
