The two core members of Les Fragments de la Nuit, Michel Villar (piano) and Ombeline Chardes (violin), are film score composers, and their early work can be heard on a variety of independent film and documentary soundtracks. Two additional violinists and a cellist were recruited to enable them to fully realise their compositions on _Musique du Crepuscule_, their first "widely available" (whatever that may mean -- this still won't be found at Walmart or Tesco) album.

The mood is highly variable, ranging from the delightfully ethereal through to the stirring and bombastic -- their work as score composers shines through, but the only film here is the one seen in by the composers' homunculi. The compositions are brief, rarely lasting more than a few minutes, but to listen to it form beginning to end, it flows with the ease of a mountain stream after the winter rains. They take us on a whirlwind of emotions from the fairylike through to Wagnerian pomposity and back to depressive dirges. Her voice is technically good -- or at least it seems like it; it is all too infrequently used, resulting in a near instrumental album. A minor matter; this is still a more than decent release. I would recommend that the songs be listened to order -- listening to _Musique du Crepuscule_ on "shuffle" will eradicate many of the nuances found within.
