Urn - _Soul Destroyers_
(Dynamic Arts Productions, 2008)
by: Quentin Kalis (5.5 out of 10)
I'm not averse to retro-minded thrash, provided they mange to imbibe a well-loved genre with a sense of vitality, as Hellish Crossfire did. Others such as Bewitched do not so much pay tribute to the style as desecrate its memory. Unfortunately, Urn falls into the latter category, sounding little more than a rehash of proto black thrash from twenty odd years ago, and doing absolutely nothing that has not already been done umpteen times. It's patently obvious that they never intended to create something groundbreaking, and I never expected them to, but I did hope for something that sounded fresher than expired milk. Buy this only if you want a retro-thrash album and are in the unlikely situation of being unable to locate one of the old classics or the new bread of invigorating thrash acts such as Gama Bomb.
