Dead Congregation - _Purifying Consecrated Ground_
(Nuclear Winter Records, 2008)
by: Quentin Kalis (7.5 out of 10)
Originally released on Konqueror Records, this five track MCD has been given the digipak treatment and afforded a wider release by Nuclear Winter Records in anticipation of Dead Congregation's debut full-length. Their blasphemous creations are located firmly within the death metal fold, with nary a peek in by black metal, the preferred medium for cacophonic heresies. Although Dead Congregation progress at a consistently speedy pace, there are sufficient tempo changes to ensure it never gets boring. There is not much that is original within this dosage of brutality, nor much that is subtle, but I guess that is not what they are after. Comparisons are easily drawn with legends Immolation and Incantation, but despite the similarities, they are not what I could consider a generic band and have much to offer in this energetic EP.
