CoC : Gog - Noriah Mills : Review

_Noriah Mills_ consists of a mere two tracks, and the first is a six minute piece of ambient minimalism that essentially serves as an intro to the gargantuan 21 minute plus title track of droning doom. Although they seem like two dissimilar styles, both focus on creating a repetitive, yet mesmerising atmosphere through subtle, drawn out changes, with total disregard for conventional song structures. The latter starts with a slowly played guitar, being struck about once every five seconds or so, and an underlying and constant drone, with the first burst of percussion appearing past the eight minute mark, inexorably building up to a climax of clashing cymbals and faster pace (relatively speaking; still slow, at best mid-paced) before winding down again. This is an entirely instrumental experience and the production could be a tad better, but it is sufficiently decent so as to create the requisite atmosphere. This is something that would appeal to those with taste for more experimental music, and Saint Vitus or My Dying Bride fans will not appreciate _Noriah Mills_. Those who can handle less orthodox doom may just find something to savour here.
