Nine tracks in just under 29 minutes doesn't sound too bad -- but the last track is eight minutes long and combines a silly outro of chirping birds (huh?) with an even sillier bonus track of sound effects. No matter: that still leaves twenty minutes of music, right? Wrong. Take out the silly filler rubbish of similar pointless effects, and only fourteen and a half minutes spread over four tracks remain. I'm sure there is a point to these interludes beyond being fillers, but I really couldn't care and I doubt anyone outside the band gives a shit. If the remaining four songs were of similar quality, I'd be ending this review about now. But they're not. The use of heavy guitar riffs to imbue classic rock with new life is hardly new, but they sure make it sound fresh, invigorating and varied -- for example, "Dig" features touches of speed metal, whilst "This Monster My Son" is reminiscent of post-Ozzy Sabbath. Whether 29 or 14 minutes, it is still an EP and is worth your money, but just be aware what you're buying -- caveat emptor and all that.
