Apeiron deliver one of the stronger self-produced works of recent months, describing this as an "independent EP" instead of as a demo. On many occasions it is a matter of avoiding the loaded connotations of "demo", which implies an unformed and undeveloped sound in need of further refinement. In many cases this is due to an inverse proportional relationship between ambition and talent, but Apeiron are not lacking for want of either; the packaging is professional, matching any under the aegis of the larger indies, while the sound and production are better than most of the smaller indies, and will suffice until they land that elusive record deal. Which probably is not that elusive: the four tracks of contemporary yet fresh melodic metal -- sans any tired melodeath-filtered-thrash chops that seems to be an unfortunate and tiresome trend -- that would find a ready home on Nuclear Blast or Napalm. The vocals do possess a touch of the metalcore, most noticeably when he goes full out. The two guitarists play beautifully off one another, and provide fullness of sound that is not reliant on crushingly heavy, yet monotonous riffs. It is obvious that their quality is not in question, only how to pronounce their name -- surely can't be "Ape-iron"?
