Ahoora - _All in Blood With You_
(Independent, 2007)
by: Quentin Kalis (7.5 out of 10)
It's not easy to record and produce a metal album in Iran, even something as seemingly innocuous as heavy metal (as compared to pornogore or blasphemous black metal), so kudos to Ahoora for recording, producing and releasing a second album within such an uninviting environment. They face a real prospect of imprisonment just for playing the music they love; and I reckon the inside of an Iranian prison renders West European prisons an extended summer camp by comparison. Kinda makes the antics of Glen Benton or Varg Vikernes look like toddlers having a tantrum.

Be that as it may, they have nonetheless managed to make significant improvements to their sound. Their debut album was frequently and unfavourably compared to Iced Earth, but they have managed to move away from obvious similarities and towards a more unique and personal sound. They have improved in most other respects, from songwriting through to arrangements and performance, with more progressive elements than before, as well as the production. Greater use is made of near-spoken vocals, which are used to great effect. _All in Blood With You_ is far from perfect, but it's a distinct and noticeable improvement.
