Bleiburg - _Open Wound_
(The Eastern Front, 2008)
by: Quentin Kalis (no rating)
This DVD consist of a live performance at the Panoptikum-Club, Kassel, Germany and it has to be one of the most pointless of DVDs I have ever seen, on a par with Satyricon's _Roadkill Extravaganza_. This is not due to the music -- I enjoy Bleiburg's work, and as a live CD this may have been of some value. No, the music is not the issue. The problem is that it is fucking dull to watch. Post-industrial was never going to offer a thrilling visual experience, but watching two guys pound away at the keyboard with occasional vocals is boring. Especially when the camera angle never changes, taken by someone who moves from the rear left hand corner of the club. EW Shroeder looks like the guy from the IT department, and while mastermind S Rukavina looks like an industrial veteran, neither have any stage presence. Schroeder, as the sometime vocalist, seems more comfortable, but the movement of both is limited to some desultory head nodding. Had I been anywhere near Germany, I would have attended this and in all likelihood enjoyed myself immensely; but this does not mean that a worthwhile DVD would result. If you buy this -- and the audio would rate at least a seven -- then put it on, switch off the TV or monitor and just listen to it.
