Detonator 666 - _Supremacy and Tyranny_
(Infernus Rex, 2008)
by: Quentin Kalis (5 out of 10)
Detonator 666 (not to confused with Aussie war metallers Destroyer 666) boast of two members from the sadly defunct cult Czech black metal band Maniac Butcher, bringing a cachet of underground credibility before the first note has been struck. However, they squander this on an insipid mix of punkish rhythms and recycled Maniac Butcher riffs, evoking everyone from Ildjarn to latter day Darkthrone. Had this been a true melding of punk flavoured rock and black metal, this might have been a potential usurper of the throne currently occupied by Dodsferd, but the two aspects are clumsily welded together. Add a Darkthrone circa _Transylvanian Hunger_ number right in the middle, and the result is an album that hints at a far greater promise than that actually realised.
