_Dar Vanvett Gror_ is yet another bout of shoddily performed and recorded black metal. In this context, "shoddy" does not equal low production values brought about by limited effort, but rather a deliberate attempt to make it sound like rubbish, through an alternation of Ildjarn-inspired bouts of hypnotic monotony and a weird reverb effect. Aska appear to be aiming for a chaotic and sloppy effect, succeeding with the latter, less so with the former. To supplement the chaotic effect they have foregone the usual ambient inspired interludes in favour of cousins from the opposite end of the post-industrial spectrum -- noise, which are comparatively structured compared with, say, Merzbow.

I have taken into account that the promo copy is a CD-R sourced from cassette, but I seriously doubt it sounds so much better that it negates earlier statements as to the quality. Only buy if you have to have everything black and raw.
