Bladesmith - _Legion of Swords_
(Inner Voice Records, 2008)
by: Quentin Kalis (5 out of 10)
Bladesmith ostensibly forge a path amongst the corpse-painted mob, but such thoughts are quickly brushed aside against the imperialist backdrop he attempts to create -- without stepping outside narrow limits of necrotized blackness. Comparisons with Graveland will be inevitable, the hoarse Darkenian croak and epic passages especially only reinforcing this perception. Although keys are used, the use of the same sound -- something like a baritone choir -- is limiting. Bladesmith straddles the worlds of heroic heathens defending their native land and dour misanthropists lurking amongst the trees, and succeeds in doing neither effectively well. The blade may have been forged, but it is in desperate need of a whetstone.
