If any one band serves as proof positive that the Brits have a tendency to grow just a tad too excited about anything even remotely home-grown, it's Annotations of an Autopsy. Across the pond, early reviews for their debut have ranged from fair to middling, while all over the UK critics have been soiling themselves with the sort of juvenile excitement that ruled day when _Altars of Madness_ hit the shelves. That leading magazines, with a track record of conservative scoring no less, should claim that with _Before the Throne of Infection_ "we've created a monster", says it all really. This chest-beating would have carried some credibility had Suffocation not released _Effigy of the Forgotten_ in 1991, because what Annotations of an Autopsy essentially deal in is a similarly methodical brand of grinding death metal, albeit significantly less sophisticated. As it is, this record is an exercise in injecting an above-average level of entertainment value into a style that has been Xeroxed more often than a copy of "The Anarchist's Cookbook". See it as such, and you'll avoid any disappointment.
