Subcyde - _Subcyde_
(Last Entertainment, 2007)
by: Pedro Azevedo (6 out of 10)
Subcyde's self-titled effort melds thrash and heavy metal together into a catchy opener in the form of "Knives in the Dark", and that turns out to be the blueprint for the rest of the album. Therein lies its appeal for some as much as its weakness for others; the tracks all revolve around similar ideas, and even though the second track, "War Infected", is no less successful than its predecessor, the spectrum soon becomes a bit limited on the curiously titled and less successful third track "Power Smash". This does not herald anything good, and the expectedly slower "Sea of Serpents", complete with annoying screaming, drags along until the album picks up pace again. By then it seems to have spent its best shots though, and never fully recovers. This makes for a passable effort that provides three or four good cuts and a number of weaker tracks; a decent album that is still unlikely to make an impact.
