Drautran - _Throne of the Depths_
(Lupus Lounge / Prophecy, 2007)
by: Pedro Azevedo (7 out of 10)
If you like your symphonic black metal aggressive, with a rough production and somewhat overbearing keyboards, then _Throne of the Depths_ could well be worth a shot. Drautran are quite acerbic for a keyboard enhanced black metal act, but when said keyboard decides to join in, it tends to take over the show a bit more than would perhaps be ideal. _Throne of the Depths_ gains interest on account of its often frenzied nature, which brings back to mind fond memories of Obtained Enslavement's classic _Witchcraft_ -- except it lacks the sheer genius of that album; the album remains an enjoyable listen, but is not a resounding success. Having apparently been silent for the past eight years, _Throne of the Depths_ is an interesting return for Drautran and sounds like it might very well herald a strong follow-up, but it is a little too rough around the edges to entirely fulfill its potential.
