The Embodiment - _Legeon_
(Independent, 2006)
by: Quentin Kalis (6.5 out of 10)
The tsunami of Gothenburg melodeath displays no signs of abatement, and Dutch newcomers The Embodiment are riding the crest. Admittedly, their melodies are catchy, or more accurately would be if they were not recycling the same melodies that have been heard on every album of this nature from this century and well before. It is impossible to doubt the drive and passion that is on explicit display however, and this largely saves the album from musical purgatory. Plus, their songs are well constructed and the vocalist provides more than capable vocals, but a greater variety of tempos other than "fast" and "slightly less fast" would be welcome. The highlight is "Y2k", its thrash edge making it their most memorable number. Overall, _Legeon_ is a highly listenable album; it just has very little to offer that is even vaguely different from the hordes.
