Hemoragy - _Jesus King of Wine_
(Indepedent, 2007)
by: Quentin Kalis (6 out of 10)
Despite sporting a name seemingly chosen randomly from a medical dictionary, this French acts raison d'ĂȘtre is speed and thrash metal with a pronounced retro edge, rather than blasting gore grind. Production is old-school and deliberately (I think) low, echoing both their '80s inspiration and their slightly dirty sound, enhanced by a slight old-school punk touch. However, they would benefit immensely from an improved production and a tighter performance, which would at the very least place a greater emphasis on the riffs and less on the vocals, which are far too high in the mix. And speaking of the vocals, they are generally decipherable, although some words are mispronounced, but his style is unremarkable. Although Hemoragy do their utmost to reproduce a particular era, they do not produce a particularly invigorating version, nor is much added in the way of originality, resulting in a rather pallid affair.
