Innerdeathexperience - _Red Paradox at the Origin of my Disease_
(Independent, 2007)
by: Quentin Kalis (7.5 out of 10)
This is intended as a taster EP for an upcoming full-length in 2008 and is effectively divided into two halves. The first half consists of three short grind numbers infested with the off-kilter rhythms of mathcore, whilst the second half consists of just one song, "Disease", which is longer than all the earlier songs combined! "Disease" can also be easily divided into two halves: the former consisting of post-Abruptum extreme doom akin to Funeralium, the latter an eerily repetitive and atmospheric number built around a monotonous and rudimentary drum pattern.

The difference between the two halves of the EP is vast: whilst the first contains aggressive and speedy numbers with labyrinthine twists than could be expected form such brief numbers, "Disease" is slow, comparatively orthodox and far simpler.

I can heartily recommend the first three songs, but "Disease" is clumsily constructed, with the two halves tacked together, and whilst the doomy tones that start the song are acceptable, the atmosphere and sense of urgency generated by the second half are diluted by being overlong, and consequently reaches a bathetic end to what was otherwise a promising release.

If nothing else, this demonstrates their versatility, but more work will need to be done on atmospheric numbers if their upcoming full-length is to surpass this EP in calibre.
