Dying Regret - _The Price of Human Ruin_
(Independent, 2007)
by: Quentin Kalis (6 out of 10)
This "independent EP" is the debut release from the USA based quartet Dying Regret, providing a healthy if unconvincing slab of modern metal. This means a mix of metalcore, thrash and melodeath, and a variation between ejaculated throat-searing shouts and less than successful attempts at cleanly sung sections. The combination serves to create a balance between balls-out aggression and melody that is brought out by production that is the best one could hope for on a self-financed release. The reader may think this description sounds rather familiar, and it is, as it is the exact formula followed by many bands with a contemporary touch. Consequently, there is little to suggest this regurgitation over many similar sounding albums. It's not entirely horrible, it's just that it is too ordinary to provide anything more than provide a means of passing the time for twenty odd minutes, with little chance of being heard beyond the holiday season.
