The Breathing Process falls somewhere just beyond the middle of that equation. Their biggest selling point is the sheer, unadulterated ferociousness of their delivery; I'm talking about the sort of heaviness that will make the likes of Dying Fetus and Beneath the Massacre run scampering into the distance. A rock-solid production job and John Lafreniere's blistering vocal performance help add further spice to the proceedings. But ultimately, despite ambitions to be otherwise, this Massachusetts troupe fall into the trap of being just another meat-and-potatoes melo-death outfit far too frequently. Still, at the very least _In Waking: Divinity_ remains a valiant effort throughout, and certainly one for which the band deserve a fair few kudos, if simply for its promise of things to come.
