I don't think it is possible to review a black metal album, especially those of an underground bent, without mentioning Darkthrone. Infuneral are no exception, and the riffing of _Bloodstained Journey_ is heavily indebted to the unholy duo of Nocturno Culto and Fenriz. However, the production is comparatively decent, providing an unexpectedly powerful sound that emphasizes aggression over atmosphere, and the vocal style is comparatively unusual, consisting of a reasonably legible growl that lends itself to comparisons with the Blazebirth Hall bands. Infuneral have a preference for proceeding at a breakneck pace, and a few slower moments barely make a difference. The combination of their speed and style allow little space for complexity, and I can't pretend that their invocation of _Transilvanian Hunger_ is in the slightest bit original, but the combination of decent production, breakneck pace and unusual vocal style have left a favorable impression, ensuring a few more listens in the months to come.
