So what's missing? On the surface, not a whole lot. What crops up at far too many intervals over the course of the record is a niggling juvenility; not so much in the music as in the frequently cringeworthy lyrics. Penned no doubt with the best intentions, the likes of "How much space do we need? / Keep on fucking / Purchase, breed" or "We need coffee tables and TVs / We are so desperately short / of coffee tables" lack the piercing craftsmanship which the band's influences appear able to invoke at will. Then again, the argument could also be levelled that if lyrics were the deciding factor in whether or not to listen to a band, most us would be sporting significantly smaller record collections.
